Suspected WWII artillery shell found by fisherman

A man from Gherman village, Ungheni district, spotted what looks like a WWII artillery shell while fishing in the Prut River.

According to the Border Police, the shell is 50 cm long and approximately 152 mm in diameter. Specialists intervened, people from the adjacent perimeter were evacuated, and the area was secured.

“The man immediately notified the Border Police patrol nearby. For 24 hours the border police supervised the artillery object. The shell is to be defused on the Bulboaca training ground, Anenii Noi district”, according to a press release.

From the beginning of this year, EOD specialists have carried out 111 explosive ordnance disposal missions, defusing 297 explosive objects of different types and 11,026 cartridges.
