A doctor practicing at the Cancer Institute has been placed under preventive arrest for 20 days after being caught red-handed taking a €2,000 bribe three days ago.

Meanwhile, the Anticorruption Center said it received another complaint against the same oncologist. Echoing the first case, the accuser claimed that he gave the doctor a 50,000 lei bribe to speed up the hospitalization of his cancer-stricken mother. According to the complaint, the bribe-taking happened in the doctor’s office and it was audio-recorded.

On February 15, the doctor was caught in the act of taking the bribe €2,000, as the Anticorruption Center recorded the whole operation. The bribe was allegedly given for admitting a cancer patient to hospital. The suspect now faces up to 10 years in jail.
