Communists and Socialists leave Parliament sitting

The MPS of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) left Friday’s sitting of Parliament in protest at the fact that their proposal to introduce a draft decision to give a vote of no confidence to Speaker Igor Grosu on the agenda was not accepted, IPN reports.

“I want to state the position of the group of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists regarding what happened yesterday. We cannot omit these situations. We consider that a particularly unpleasant, even serious situation was created in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova in connection with the periodic violation of pluralism of opinion, of free expression. The Parliament is an institution where open, contradictory debates must take place, but each MP expresses the will and position of the voters who delegated them to sit in the Parliament. We consider that in the Parliament there are systematic attacks on MPs, different labels, comments that violates the Parliament’s Rules of Procedure,” said BCS MP Vlad Batrîncea, Deputy Speaker.

The MP proposed to add to the agenda a draft decision to give a vote of no confidence to Speaker Igor Grosu.

“Mister MP, trust was already given to me. It is a small-big problem. The agenda for today’s sitting was agreed yesterday. You do some more training and propose again at the next sitting,” Igor Grosu said in reply.

The MPs of the BCS group held a press briefing in which they presented the draft decision on the dismissal of the Speaker. “Mister Grosu periodically forgets that he is the moderator of the Parliament sittings and is not the chief of MPs. He is not in the position of party chief, but is the person who must ensure the smooth running of sittings,” stated Vlad Batrîncea.

The BCS’s initiative comes after seven MPs close to the fugitive Ilan Shor  at Thursday’s sitting were punished by being banned from attending five plenary sessions after they blocked the central rostrum because two MPs were not allowed to speak in Parliament. In a protest in front of the Parliament Building on Friday, MPs close to Shor announced that they drafted a decision on the dismissal of the Speaker.
