The consequences of the war in Ukraine and its impact on the Republic of Moldova in light of the refugee influx were discussed by Nicu Popescu, Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, with Hayashi Yoshimasa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, who previously held the presidency of the Moldova-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group in Japan’s National Diet.

The two officials met in Weissenhaus, Germany, on the margin of the G7 foreign ministers’ summit.

The two foreign ministers condemned the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and reiterated their efforts to support the latter.

Nicu Popescu thanked Japan and its partner countries for their help to the Republic of Moldova in managing the refugee crisis. “The Japanese authorities supported us with a financial contribution of 12 million US dollars provided under the Support Platform for the Republic of Moldova as well as a voluntary donation of 1.7 million US dollars from companies, NGOs and Japanese citizens raised on the account opened by the Ministry of Finance”, said Nicu Popescu.

The Moldovan foreign minister appreciated the constant assistance from Japan in various projects carried out in the Republic of Moldova, which aim to modernize our country on its European path.
