The vote for appointing the prosecutor general can equal that for creating the parliamentary majority. Vlad Filat’s opponents may vote for him as Premier if they are allowed to name their candidate as prosecutor general, who keeps the Prime Minister permanently in check, politician Victor Stepaniuc said in the program Politica” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.
“If the PL votes for naming the prosecutor, Filat will be elected Prime Minister. I see this game clearly. The prosecutor will continue to keep the Premier in check,” stated Victor Stepaniuc. He considers that the post of prosecutor general is very important in the state and the person who will occupy it will keep Vlad Filat permanently in check.
Head of Parliament Marian Lupu announced that he will soon hold consultations with the parliamentary factions to examine the candidate for prosecutor general Vitalie Pirlog. Earlier, the Liberal-Democratic and Liberal MPs said they will not vote for Pirlog because he was minister of justice under the Communists.
Vitalie Pirlog was fielded as a result of a contest held by a commission that included representatives of civil society and legal system professionals.
