Moldova has made its civilizational choice, Moldovan Community in Quebec president

Moldova is developing and has a concrete reform plan, says Ala Mîndîcanu, president of the Moldovan Community in Quebec, who has returned to Moldova to attend the Diaspora Days. According to the former lawmaker, Moldova is heading in the right direction, and the key institutions have common visions regarding the modernization of the country.

Formerly a Member of Moldovan Parliament for two terms, Ala Mîndîcanu has been living with her family in Canada for almost 15 years now, being the president of the Moldovan Community in Quebec. Back home, she says that the changes in Moldova are visible, with the country firmly choosing the European development vector.

“The Republic of Moldova has made its civilizational choice, it is developing, it has established a concrete reform plan and we have a president, parliament and government that look in the same direction and this is really great”, said Ala Mîndîcanu during the show “Points of Reflection” at Vocea Basarabiei.

According to her, pro-Russian forces in Moldova influence society and oppose changes in the judicial system, a phenomenon that delays the modernization and Europeanization of the country. “Any normal person wants to live in democracy, welfare, wants a salary like in Europe, respect like in Europe, wants everything to be like there. But there is another side that wants us back, in the 19th-20th century, where territories mattered more than people”, said Ala Mîndîcanu, adding that the pro-Russian forces in Moldova remain “very influential” and “support corruption”.

In August, Moldova traditionally holds the Diaspora Days. Taking place on August 19-20, this year’s edition will have Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu, Deputy Prime Minister Iurie Țurcanu and Election Commission chair Angelica Caraman among the speakers.
