Russian Center for Culture remains open. Bill to denounce agreement needed

The Ministry of Culture is to send to the Cabinet a bill to denounce the agreement on the basis of which the Russian Center for Cultural operates. Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi said that the draft will be submitted to Parliament later, and then the Russian side will be notified, IPN reports.

"This approach of ours has nothing to do with the rather propagandistic criticism. We are not against the Russian language, the Russian culture. But when such a center works to undermine the statehood and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova, such approaches are understandable, especially when drones with explosives endanger the lives of our citizens. Several months will be needed before the notification of the Russian side," said the minister.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Chisinau remains operational.

"No written notification of termination of the agreement on its work has been received from the Moldovan authorities. Even if there is such a notification, the contract will remain in force until mid-2026," said Zakharova.

The decision to close the Russian Center of Culture was taken after the repeated violation of the airspace of the Republic of Moldova. Following a massive attack on the Ukrainian port of Reni, a number of drones crossed the Moldovan airspace. A drone fell on farmland near Ciumai village in Taraclia district, while another one exploded on a field near Ceadîr-Lunga town.
