The leader of the national boxing squad Veaceslav Gojan was eliminated from the European Boxing Championships that are taking place in Minsk, Belarus. The Moldovan sportsman was defeated in the 1/8 finals of the 56 kg class by Azerbaijan’s Samir Mammadov 1-2, IPN reports.
On June 4, defeats also suffered Moldovan boxers Dmitri Suhodolschi (49 kg), Victor Carapcevschi (75 kg), and Vladimir Cheles (91 kg). They all lost to representatives of Ukraine. Vasile Belous, the only Moldovan boxer who scored a victory in the 69 kg class, qualified for quarterfinals after beating Robert Bilik of the Czech Republic 3-0.
In the battle for European medals, Moldova will be represented by three athletes: Dmitri Galagot (64 kg), Vasile Belous (69 kg), and Petru Ciobanu (81 kg). They all play matches on June 5.
