Ex-MP: Vaccinated persons should enjoy benefits

Liviu Vovc, former MP of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform”, proposed that the persons vaccinated against COVID-19 should enjoy benefits as a measure to stimulate the immunization process, IPN reports.

“I declare from the start that I’m against compulsory vaccination. This is against the human rights and the Constitution,” Liviu Vovc posted on Facebook.

However, the ex-MP noted vaccination is essential as it reduces the costs associated with the treatment of COVID-19 cases. According to the calculations of the National Health Insurance Company, the costs of a treated case rise to about 9,000 lei, but hospital data show a treated case of infection with the novel coronavirus exceeds 13,000 lei. “In such a situation, the state can and should come with measures to encourage vaccination,” said the ex-MP.

Liviu Vovc said that when he sat as an MP, he began to draft an organic law on vaccination against SARS-CoV-2. “The goal of the law was to offer benefits and support to those who get vaccinated and to also remind once again that vaccination is voluntary and cannot be made mandatory. I didn’t register the bill as it was clear that Parliament will no longer sit until the elections. Surely, a lot changed since then and the bill needs to be adjusted, but this is the most opportune solution for stimulating vaccination. We will not succeed with statistics, scarecrows and the cudgel,” stated Liviu Vovc.

According to the latest data of the Ministry of Health, 15% of Moldova’s population got the first and second doses of vaccine against COVID-19. The vaccination rate is the highest in Chisinau – 29%.
