Entrance to the swimming pool of the National University of Physical Education and Sport as from October 1 will be possible with a vaccine certificate, with a negative COVID-19 test result or a certificate showing that the person went through the disease 180 days or based on other documents stipulated by the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission, the pool’s director Vasile Cerbușca stated for IPN, making reference to a relevant decision by the Commission. This is a measure to prevent infection.
On the other hand, Eduard Slobodaniuc, director of the Palace of Sports of the State University of Moldova that has a swimming pool, has told IPN that he hasn’t yet received instructions as to the restrictions for persons who come to swim in their pool. They are now implementing the August 10, 2021 decision by the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission, under which the swimming pool must work at half of its capacity.
Owing to the financial losses sustained by swimming pools during the pandemic, it was decided to increase the price of tickets. The administration of the swimming pool of the National University of Physical Education and Sport as from September 1, 2020 increased the price of a ticket for 45 minutes from 50 to 100 lei. The Palace of Sports of the State University of Moldova raised the price of a ticket from 50 to 70 lei as from July 2021. Eduard Slobodaniuc said their revenues decreased by 35% due to the pandemic.
It should be noted that the State University of Moldova and the National University of Physical Education and Sport are the only higher education institutions in Moldova that have modern sports infrastructure and by a swimming pool. The students of the Police Academy “Ștefan cel Mare” use the swimming pool of the Central Sports Club “Dinamo” managed by the Ministry of the Interior, but this has been under repair for several years.
