48 delegations confirmed presence at EPC Summit in Moldova

So far, 48 states of the 50 expected have confirmed their presence at the European Political Community Summit that Moldova will host on June 1. Approximately half of the delegations will arrive on May 31. The other half of the delegations will come in the first half of June 1. The summit starts at 10:30am and will end at 7pm. The information was presented by Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, in a news conference, IPN reports.

According to the official, the presence of the 50 European leaders in Bulboaca is a clear signal that the Republic of Moldova has many and powerful friends that fully support it in its wish to keep peace and stability in Moldova and freedom in society. “Over 600 journalists from Germany, France, Spain, Italy and other states were accredited to cover the summit. We are sure that the Republic of Moldova is a very safe venue for this summit. Security is primarily ensured by national institutions, but with the support and coordination of our counterparts from other countries,” stated the official.

The summit starts with a plenary session in which the leaders will be able to state their position on particular areas of interest. Later, they will separate into working groups to discuss particular issues, particularly related to peace and security on the European continent. Spaces will also be offered for bilateral meetings. Announcements related directly to the Republic of Moldova will be made on the sidelines of the summit.

The minister noted that Moldova is now not under a military threat, but the country needs to cope with multiple negative effects of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which are felt in Moldova. “Through this angle, for our country it is more important than ever to assure the citizens that they are safe before these problems generated by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and by the Russian Federation’s hostile policies towards our country. In this regard, the summit is a firm message that the Republic of Moldova is not alone,” stated the official.

The second  European Political Community Summit is held at the Mimi Castle in Bulboaca village of Anenii Noi district, which is situated about 35 km from Chisinau. Throughout the event, movement through Chisinau will be restricted. The maps with the alternative routes will be available online.

The European Political Community is an intergovernmental forum for political and strategic discussions about the future of Europe, established in 2022 after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, on the initiative of the President of France Emmanuel Macron. The group first met in October 2022 in Prague, the Czech Republic.
