Tudor Braniște: Problem of young people doing research is quite acute and will become more acute over time

The problem of young people doing research is quite acute and can become more acute over time, because the number of doctoral students in particular fields is very small. The situation in the field of social sciences and humanities is better, but in the field of exact sciences it is quite bad, said Dr. Tudor Braniște, head of the Academic Management and External Relations Section of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, president of the Youth Academy of Moldova.

At a public debate hosted by IPN News Agency, Tudor Braniste noted that the number of young people in the field of fundamental sciences and engineering technology is much lower than in the field of humanities, economic sciences and law. If the trends remain the same, there will be even greater difficulties in attracting young people to exact sciences.

The Youth Academy of Moldova organizes various activities to attract students, guide them in their careers. Students remain enthusiastic when they come to the research labs and learn about research projects. Infrastructure is also a reason behind young people’s decision to choose to do so. High-performance equipment is needed for research, said Tudor Braniște.

The application part is important for young people. To this end, student visits to research laboratories and summer schools are organized. The partnership between the Romanian Academy and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova for the development of research and innovation will bring benefits, the researcher believes. The organization of joint events will enable to build bridges, which will stimulate the involvement of young people and their wider access to information.

The public debate entitled “Romanian Academy and Academy of Sciences of Moldova: Partnership for the Development of Research and Innovation in the European Context” was the sixth edition of the project “Double Integration through Cooperation and Information. Continuity”, which is funded by the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova. The content of this debate does not represent the official position of the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova.
