Three Chisinau hospitals to receive energy efficiency upgrades

Three municipal hospitals will be renovated and receive energy efficiency upgrades after the Chisinau Mayor’s Office signed a contract to this effect with an Azerbaijani company.

The hospitals are “Sfânta Treime”, “Gheorghe Paladi” and “Valentin Ignatenco”.

The contracts will be financed through loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank, with a grant component from the E5P Energy Fund.

The rehabilitation will last over a year and a half and will include external insulation, replacement of carpentry, installation of heat recovery ventilation systems, replacement of heating systems, installation of LED lighting and other works.

The works will not affect the hospitals’ normal activity, the City Hall said in a press release.

The implementation of the Project “Energy Efficiency and Thermal Insulation of Public Institutions in Chisinau” began two years ago and provides for the renovation and energy efficiency of 23 buildings: 6 kindergartens, 14 high schools and 3 municipal hospitals. They have been selected from over 300 municipal buildings that are drain on the city’s coffers because of their exorbitant heating bills.

The €25 million project is implemented by the Mayor’s Office with funding from the EBRD (€10 million loan), EIB (€10 million loan) and the E5P Energy Fund (with the EU being the largest donor) (€5 million grant).
