Taxpayers can request refund of excess income tax withheld

Starting with May 1, the State Tax Service will receive applications for the refund of the excess income tax paid or withheld from the resident individual of the Republic of Moldova for 2023. The application submitted before the set deadline is examined starting with the day following the deadline for submitting the income tax return, IPN reports.

According to the Service, applications for income tax refund will be examined as from May 1 as the period of receipt of the income tax return for 2023 from citizens - private individuals ends on April 30. Among the exceptions are the situations when the individual intends to change the permanent residence in the Republic of Moldova and the application is examined on the date of receipt.

The individual may request the refund of income tax by submitting an application for refund of the excess amount paid/withheld either online or on paper. In electronic format, the application will be submitted through the “Electronic Declaration” service, if the individual has an electronic signature. In order to submit the application electronically, the “Request for Refund” section needs to be accessed. At the same time, the application can be submitted on paper, independently (or through the legal representative) to the local subdivision of the State Tax Service.

For additional information, the interested persons can call the State Tax Service’s Call Center on 0 8000 1525, free of charge.
