The high winds on February 24 downed trees, billboards and other constructions in the capital city. In Durlești town of Chisinau municipality, the rescuers towed away a tree that fell onto a public transport station, blocking the street. Contacted by IPN for details, the deputy mayor of Durlești Ion Arsenii said no one was hurt and the caused damage was insignificant.
In the center of Chisinau, an advertising installation in front of the National Palace “Nicolae Sulac” fell onto two cars. An Internet user posed pictures of parts of the façade of a commercial center situated on Albișoara St being blown off by the wind.
Sergei Carp, head of the Green Areas Association, said they received 70 requests to remove downed trees and branches from streets and parked cars all over Chisinau by 3pm. As many as 280 employees of the enterprise are working at the scenes with 20 units of transport.
The State Hydrometeorological Service issued an orange code advisory for high winds for February 24, until 8pm. The northwestern wind was forecast to intensify to 17-22 m/s, in parts to 23-25m/s.
