The Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS), in the new local mayoral elections in Chisinau municipality, will support the candidate of the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) Andrei Nastase. The PAS called on all the pro-European and anti-oligarchic forces to support the same candidate in the May 20 elections, IPN reports.

According to PAS leader Maia Sandu, Chisinau needs a competent mayor who can improve the quality of life in the capital city. The nomination of a common candidate increases the chances in the future elections. “Given that the Democratic Party will have several candidates in the mayoral elections in Chisinau, whom we know - Silvia Radu and the candidate of the PSRM Ion Ceban – the danger of losing the City Hall is very big. From the experience at the presidential elections, we know how these two parties can combine forces to prevent the holding of free and fair elections. The fragmentation and division of the pro-European voters increase the chances of successfully putting this plan into practice,” stated the politician.

For his part, Andrei Nastase said the pro-European forces showed political maturity by deciding to support a common candidate for the mayoralty. “I’m honored to represent what’s left in Moldova in a small amount – the hope, the people’s hope for a change and for high-quality reforms that would have an impact on each of us,” he stated. “The people want properly repaired roads, modern transport, education and healthcare. These can all be real and we firmly promise that we will implement our program.”

Also today, March 29, the two parties signed an agreement that defines the mechanism for selecting candidates under the party list and in constituencies for this autumn’s parliamentary elections and the joint PAS - PPPDA statement by which the two parties assume a number of commitments. A commission for assessing merits that will consists of eight members, four of whim from outside the two parties, will work to form the future bloc for the parliamentary elections. Joint electoral staffs will be created in constituencies and cooperation relations will be established with the local elected officials that showed integrity and resistance within other parties, especially the Liberal Democratic Party. Financial transparency will be ensured by publishing the costs and donations on the websites.

So far, their candidates for the mayoralty of Chisinau were announced by the Liberal Party, the Party of Socialists and the Shor Party. The Democratic Party said it will not have its own candidate in the local elections, but is ready to support a common candidate of the pro-European parties of the right.
