Nine children without parental care spent winter vacation in Italy

Nine children who remained without parental care and are beneficiaries of placement services of the Chisinau Children’s Rights Protection Division spent the winter vacation in Italy, as part of families of Italians, during December 22, 2019 – January 8, 2020.

In a press release, the Division said the visit was made based on a cooperation agreement between the municipal Division and the Volunteer Association PUER Onlus Moral Body that is responsible for issuing authorizations to families that intend to host children, IPN reports.

The children, together with members of the Italian families that lodged them, visited the Colosseum and Trojan’s Column.

The children tasted traditional Italian dishes, visited relatives of the Italian families where they celebrated Christmas and the birthday of a beneficiary. They familiarized themselves with Italian traditions and customs and visited shops in Rome. They received presents and spent several days at the workplace of members of the families.



The Republic of Moldova has won three medals and two honorable mentions at the International Mathematics Olympiad. The national team earned a silver medal and two bronze medals during the competition held from July 9 to 21 in Shanghai, China, reports IPN.

The silver medal was won by Alin Popescu. The bronze medals were obtained by Marius Cerlat and Alexandr Ivanicichin, while the honorable mentions went to Anastasia Corsac and Vladislav Smochina. All five students study at the “Orizont” Theoretical High School in Durlesti, Chisinau municipality.

The competition was attended by 666 students from 117 countries. The Republic of Moldova was represented by six students and two teachers. The team was led by Valeriu Gutu, a doctor in physical-mathematical sciences and associate professor at the State University of Moldova, and the deputy leader was Evghenii Cuznetov, a doctor in physical-mathematical sciences, researcher at the “Vladimir Andrunachievici” Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science of the State University of Moldova.

The Ministry of Education and Research has sent congratulations to the awarded students, their teachers and parents. At the same time, the institution expressed gratitude to the members of the Republican Olympic Council in Mathematics for their involvement in preparing the national team.

The designated Prime Minister, Vasile Tofan, will request the Parliament’s vote of confidence for the cabinet of ministers and the government program today. The plenary session in which the deputies will examine the request is scheduled for 11:00 AM, reports IPN.

In accordance with the legislation, the Parliament gives the vote of confidence to the Government with the vote of the majority of elected deputies. Based on the vote of confidence granted by the Parliament, the President of the Republic of Moldova appoints the Government.

In the Government proposed by the designated Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, ten ministers from the current executive will be found, and four portfolios will go to new members of the cabinet. At the same time, the deputy prime ministers for reintegration and for European integration, Valeriu Chiveri and Cristina Gherasimov, will retain their positions.

Alexandru Gasnas, presidential advisor, is designated for the position of Minister of Health. Radu Musteata, the director of the National Agency for Food Safety, is proposed for the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, while Victoria Belous, PAS deputy, who previously held the same portfolio, is put forward for the position of Minister of Finance. Dan Suruceanu, the current vice-administrator of the multimedia and sports complex Chisinau Arena, is proposed for the leadership of the Ministry of Culture.

Vasile Tofan has been appointed as the prime ministerial candidate by President Maia Sandu, at the proposal of the Action and Solidarity Party, following the resignation of Alexandru Munteanu.
