The guaranteeing of access to reliable, sustainable and modern energy is the major objective of the country’s energy policy in the context of the efforts made to ensure state security and the fulfillment of the commitments undertaken by the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement on climate change, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu stated within a High-Level Dialogue on Energy on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, IPN reports.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration in a press release said the High-Level Dialogue on Energy brought together high-level governmental delegations, including leaders from the private sector and civil society. The dialogue was aimed at mobilizing the commitments for achieving Goal 7: affordable and clean energy, and the energy sector related targets from the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by the UN member states, including the Republic of Moldova, in a summit held in New York in 2015. It sets out 17 Goals and 169 targets, which jointly constitute a comprehensive plan of action to eradicate poverty and ensure sustainable development. Recognizing the importance of energy for development, Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) has been established as the first-ever universal goal on energy, and includes targets for access, renewables and energy efficiency.
