Newborn hearing screening and allowances for commuting doctors

As from next year, the hearing screening for newborns for the first time will be covered by the common health insurance program. This is provided in the draft mandatory health insurance budget for 2024, which was approved by the Cabinet. Under the draft law, the state will pay allowances for the commuting medical personnel that live and work in different localities, IPN reports.

The mandatory health insurance funds for next year are by 9.1% higher than last year. According to the Ministry of Health, this will enable to extend the package of medical services, including to prolong the list of compensated medicines and medical devices, to procure medical services within special programs and neurological medical services for patients with acute stroke.

There will be covered the costs of individual prostheses and expensive consumables needed for the surgical rehabilitation of patients with malign and benign tumors. High performance services will be acquired for diagnosing diseases in children and grownups. An e-prescription system for compensated drugs will be introduced.

A network of rural drugstores will be created with state budget finds. The first 150 drugstores will be opened in 2024. The infrastructure of national and district public health facilities founded by the Ministry of Health will be further improved.

The incomes and expenditure of the mandatory health insurance funds for 2024 were projected at 15.4 billion lei each.
