The water resources and ecosystems belonging to the Nistru River basin will be protected and managed more efficiently, based on a new document that was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, IPN reports.
The plan for managing the Nistru River basin for 2025-2030 includes actions aimed at developing the wastewater collection and treatment infrastructure. They also aim to improve water quality by reducing the quantities of pollutants and preventing the risk of drought and floods.
According to the Ministry of Environment, the document also covers ongoing projects, such as the construction of the wastewater treatment plant in Soroca, the rehabilitation and modernization of central water supply and sewerage systems in rural localities, the cleaning and deepening of riverbeds, as well as their inspection.
Among other actions stipulated in the plan are the strengthening of cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine in managing water resources and monitoring the quality of surface waters, maintenance and conservation of aquatic species that live in protected areas, and carrying out of information campaigns on the importance of protecting water resources.
