New crucifix placed in Square of Metropolitan Cathedral

A new crucifix was set up in the Square of the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth” in central Chisinau. It is situated in the same place where the first crucifix brought from Maramures was fitted in 1991, in memory of poet Mihai Eminescu, IPN reports.

“The wooden cross is the symbol of Orthodox faith. It is placed to serve as a stop for reverence and prayer for passersby. I thank the initiator of the idea Teodor Ardelean, president of the Cultural Association “Romanian Family”, and the director of “Petre Dulfu” County Library in Baia Mare, who was receptive and reacted promptly to our call and came with a new symbol as the old crucifix was in a bad state,” said the mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban.

The new crucifix was made by priest Teodor Bârsan from Maramureș.

The project is implemented with financial support from CNTEE Transelectrica SA of Bucharest.
