National Wine Day to be held in central square of Chisinau Oct. 1-2

The 21st edition of the National Wine Day will take place in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on October 1 and 2. The slogan this year is “My wine brings peace, turns hatred into love”, which is a call for solidarity with the wine industry and the effort made to develop this sector. Over 80 wine producers from all over the country will come together to present their accomplishments, IPN reports.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea said the Republic of Moldova is among the ten leading wine producers and exporters of the world. Moldova is associated with high-quality wine and the other sectors of agriculture should also tend to be associated with products of a high quality. Moderate consumption of wine should be encouraged as small amounts of wine drunk regularly seem to lead to better health.

Elizaveta Breahnă, acting director of the National Office of Vine and Wine, noted that this year’s edition of the holiday will involve a large number of small winemakers. A national contest for wine made from indigenous grape varieties and other types will be held on September 29-20. The jury members will represent nine countries and only 30% of the participants will be awarded. The winemakers who contribute to developing the wine industry will receive diplomas of gratitude.

Elizaveta Breahnă said the National Wine Day will promote moderate consumption of wine and high-quality wine. The visitors will be able to take part in tasting events, masterclasses and craft workshops and to see a great performance involving beloved national artists. Those who will buy “the taster’s card” will receive a glass and will be able to taste 11 wines using tickets from the card. The wineries will open their doors to visitors who will taste wines and will follow the process of making high-quality wine.

Diana Lazăr, head of the Wine Industry Component of the USAID High Value Agriculture Activity, stated that the quality of the Moldovan wines improved considerably in time and these wines win an increasing number of awards each year. Through the exported wine, all the Moldovan wine producers annually transmit 60 million invitations to over 60 destinations in the world, which urge to discover Moldova.

The National Wine Day is staged by the National Office of Vine and Wine.
