Moldova made moderate progress in European integration process, report

The Moldovan authorities made moderate progress in the process of implementing the plans of action and strategies on European integration. Such a conclusion was reached by authors of the publication “Euromonitor. Implementation of reforms in the context of the EU-Moldova cooperation”, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The activities described in the action plans on visa liberalization and the recommendations made by the European Commission about the free trade area were carried out. Furthermore, we cannot ignore the fact that Moldova was praised for the progress it made at the Eastern Partnership summit held in Warsaw at the end of last September. This is what I mean when I say moderate progress,” the executive director of “Adept” Igor Botan said in a roundtable meeting where the report was presented. Igor Botan stressed that there are yet certain subjective factors in the European integration process. “I refer to the fact that the ruling alliance did not manage to elect the head of state and this problem became pressing for the people. The politicians are involved in discussions and arguments, but ignore the really important issues, those concerning the European integration,” the political analyst told the press. He also said that sometimes the faces of the leaders of the Alliance for European Integration, when they deliver speeches, show that they themselves do not believe what they say. In the roundtable meeting, the director of the think tank “Expert-Grup” Valeriu Prohnitski said an opinion poll last year showed that the people are no longer so inspired by the European integration idea. The report authors said that the authorities should be pressed into making effort to implement the European integration strategies, with the mass media being the most suitable instrument for this. The publication appears within the project “EU-Moldova Relations – Monitoring Progress within the Framework of the Eastern Partnership”, which is implemented by the Association for Participatory Democracy “Adept” and the Independent Analytical Center “Expert-Grup”.
