The Liberal Party does not want the post of head of state. It only wants a formula for electing the head of state to be identified so as to avoid a possible political crisis, the chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said in the program “In depth” on Pro TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.
Ghimpu noted that they gave up the discussions on the method of electing the head of state so that the pro-European alliance could be formed, but will insist on these discussions after a period of three months. “We are three parties and each of us has their own position on the election of the head of state. The PDM wants the President to be elected by the votes of 61 MPs; we want by the votes of 51 MPs. The PDLM is for the direct election of the head of state. In a year, we must elect the head of state. We must do everything possible to avoid a new political crisis,” said the head of the PL.
Mihai Ghimpu spoke for the first time about the 14 conditions that he put forward in the negotiations. Besides naming a person from a EU member state to the post of prosecutor general, the Liberals also asked holding accountable those to blame for the theft committed at Banca de Economii and restoring the 3.5 billion lei, terminating the contract on the concession of the Chisinau Airport, depoliticizing the law enforcement bodies, unblocking the common customs posts, performing an audit at Moldova Gaz to see how the majority shareholding in this company was transmitted to Russia’s Gazprom, and transferring the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline under the administration of Moldova Gaz.”
Mihai Ghimpu also said that the PDM and PLDM agreed that the post of Head of Parliament will be held by a representative of the Democrats, while the post of Premier by a representative of the Liberals. “Iurie Leanca could remain Prime Minister only if the ruling alliance is formed together with the Liberal Party,” he stated.
The Liberal leader noted that they submitted a list of eight ministries for the PDM and PLDM to choose four of them and offer them to the Liberals. “We want to manage such ministries as the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Economy. They offered us the Ministry of Agriculture in order to get rid of responsibility for the situation created after the imposition of bans by Russia, and the Ministry of Justice, but what justice can be there when all the law enforcement bodies are politicized?” asked Ghimpu.
