Marcel Ciolacu: Romania and Moldova should cope with war challenges together

Romania and Republic of Moldova should together cope with the challenges generated by Russia’s unjust war against the sovereign state Ukraine. We must together find the best solutions for the citizens to see an improvement in the living standards, said Romanian Premier Marcel Ciolacu, who is paying his first visit to Chisinau after his appointment, IPN reports.

In a news conference, the newly appointed Prime Minister said it is good that the projects for which Romania will offer financing to Moldova have been designed. In one of the next meetings of the Cabinet, they will adopt decisions to disburse funds for the projects related to drinking water, sewerage, and projects to support Moldova’s villages so that they become European.

“We two should become involved and create a functioning mechanism so as to step up the implementation of these projects and they reach the citizens as swiftly as possible, so as to combat this hybrid war caused by Russia, primarily against the Republic of Moldova. Only by concrete things that I’m firmly convinced we will do together, will implement together, we can overcome this challenge,” stated the Romanian official.

Marcel Ciolacu expressed his political support for the government of Moldova. “President Maia Sandu, your person are the only guarantee that the Republic of Moldova will continue its pro-European course. There is now no political force in Moldova, which would guarantee this course. I say it without any hesitation: your future is in the European Union and we will support together this approach,” said the Romanian Premier, addressing his Moldovan counterpart.

For his part, Dorin Recean said that today they discussed the nine projects covered by the second tranche of the €100 million assistance from the Government of Romania. The value of these projects is €28 million and the investments are oriented to companies’ opportunities and to the development of localities in Moldova.

“The relations between Bucharest and Chisinau have been further strengthened. We build connection infrastructure, build roads, bridges, energy networks, a common digital space and this will be to the benefit of all the citizens from the left side and the right side of the Prut so that everyone feels very well at home. This way, we build the European Union and build Europe here, in the Republic of Moldova,” stated Dorin Rceean.
