The negotiation of the social security agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the Italian Republic was completed. The agreement will be signed by President Maia Sandu while in Rome. The subject was discussed by President Sandu with her Italian counterpart Sergio Matarella, IPN reports.
According to the presidential press service, the officials also discussed the problems faced by the community of Moldovans in Italy and how the diaspora can contribute to the enhanced cooperation between the two states. They conferred on the political situation in Moldova during the current election campaign, with President Sandu underlining the necessity of ensuring free and fair elections.
“As regards the COVID-19 pandemic, I noted that we bank on the openness of the Italian authorities so that our citizens enjoy simplified conditions of travel in Italy, including based on a certificate recognized by the EU member states. We also discussed subjects from the regional and European agenda, noting that we bank on Italy’s support in Brussels. In particular, we need assistance in achieving the objectives stipulated in the Association Agreement with the EU and in strengthening the Eastern Partnership,” stated Maia Sandu.
Sergio Mattarella assured that Italy will remain an active supporter of the Republic of Moldova. Finally, the interlocutors agreed to maintain a dynamic dialogue, with Maia Sandu inviting her Italian counterpart to pay a visit to Moldova.
