The General Inspectorates of the Border Police of the Ministries of the Interior of Moldova and Romania will perform joint patrolling along the state border. The Cabinet of Moldova on November 1 approved the opening of talks on the protocol to this effect.
Joint border patrolling exists in many states. Emphasis will be placed on the prevention and discovery of trafficking in persons and goods, especially smuggling of cigarettes and units of transport, narcotic and psychotropic substances.
The joint teams will patrol an inland area of 10 km of the borderline. The Moldovan and Romanian authorities have performed coordinated patrolling on the Prut River since 2012. In the first half of this year alone, the joint teams identified 626 violations.
