The citizens of the Republic of Moldova should understand the enormous power of their vote. It is very important to realize the force that they can exert by voting , journalist Vitalie Calugareanu was quoted by IPN as saying in the program ”Important” on TVC21 channel.
According to the journalist, the early mayoral elections held on May 20 showed that things in Moldova can change. “They gave birth to a ray of hope that will mobilize the people for the runoffs and for the parliamentary elections. Furthermore, what happened in Balti makes the Socialists have jitters for the parliamentary elections,” stated Vitalie Calugareanu.
Civic activist Sergiu Tofilat said that if the current system remains to govern for four more years, a lot of people will leave the country. This was the reason why the people went to vote. They didn’t aim to support Andrei Nastase, but wanted rather to prevent Vladimir Plahotniuc from taking control of Chisinau. “It was proven that this is possible. The current regime does not control the situation as it wants and this is a very powerful signal at the foreign level. With the results of the first round of voting and with the outcome of the runoffs, which I hope will also be good, the current regime can be removed. We, civil society, will do our best in this regard,” stated the activist.
