The procedure for amicable ascertaining of minor accidents took effect about a year ago. This can be used for accidents involving two motor vehicles that resulted in insignificant damage to the vehicles, assessed at not more than 10,000 lei. According to the National Commission for Financial Markets, during September 8, 2019 - May 20, 2020, the insurers paid insurance totaling over 12.5 million lei in more than 2,200 files.
In a response to an inquiry made by IPN, the Commission said that according to the information presented by insurance companies for September 8, 2019 - May 20, 2020, the insurers dealt with 3,117 applications for damages based on forms. Of these, 1,471 applications were registered during September 8 – December 31, 2019, while 1,646 – during January 1 – May 20, 2020. In the period, the insurers refused to pay insurance over 142 applications for insurance.
According to the National Commission for Financial Markets, the amicable settlement leads to the shortening of the procedures for recovering the damage in road accidents with insignificant damages and is an alternative to the settlement defined by law.
