The whole national system of public transport was transmitted to private individuals and something like this is dangerous for the life and health of travellers in Moldova, stated MP of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Igor Munteanu. He noted that the enterprise that obtained use of the state-owned enterprise “Motor Terminals and Stations” under franchise passed on the concession rights to a firm that sells clothes and footwear and to private individuals, IPN reports.
“They transmitted the concession rights to private individuals. The managers are now persons who represent an obscure clothing and footwear firm and private individuals. It is absurd to pass on the whole national public transport system to private individuals. No state that respects itself should do such things as this is dangerous for the life, not only for the comfort and safety of passengers,” Igor Munteanu stated in the program “In Depth” on ProTV Chisinau channel.
The MP said the profits that can be generated by the enterprise “Motor Terminals and Stations” should not be neglected. Before being conceded, these stations made profits of 5 million lei a year, were in a better state, paid the employees and weren’t in a disastrous state even if they didn’t have enough money for self-modernization. They could have kept the situation under control without any involvement from outside. The transactions performed on the road transportation market amount to 500 million lei, which is an attractive sum for companies that venture to work in this area.
In 2019, the concessionaire was to invest 35 million lei in the modernization of about ten motor stations. Some of the stations started to be modernized, but the concessionaire didn’t present a report, while the monitoring commission didn’t determine how much money was invested in these facilities. “Furthermore, these investments that were made in 2019, after the contract was signed, weren’t made with bank funds as relevant information wasn’t presented. A question appears, with what resources were these works of which the concessionaire is very proud financed. Secondly, the transfer of these facilities to the concessionaire blocked many policies of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure,” explained Igor Munteanu, noting the best solution is to terminate this contract and to establish how much money was invested.
