Igor Dodon said statement on irreversible European course is incorrect approach

President Igor Dodon considers the opposition MPs’ statement concerning the irreversible European course of Moldova is an attempt to broach again the geopolitical aspect. In a new episode of the program “President Responds”, President Dodon said he believes this approach is incorrect, IPN reports.

The official noted that this statement is designed to further divide the Moldovan society. He pleads for a balanced approach under which everyone would be on friendly terms with each other, based on the national interests. “Let’s take what is good from the Europeans, the Russians and implement in our country. Let’s do good things in the Republic of Moldova,” he stated.

“We can agree with the Europeans so that they give us money for roads. We will travel further visa-free in Europe. We can take cheaper gas from Russia and sell our apples there. Let’s be friends. We should adopt a statement to note that we are on friendly terms with everyone.”

As to the split inside the PDM (six MPs left the party earlier this week, e.n.), the official said this was inevitable given the differing views that existed inside the PDM’s team. All the parties that were in power experienced confusion after leaving government. Given these evolutions, it is now important what will follow.

He noted there are three possible scenarios. The first scenario is that the current situation will persist. The Government, without having the support of a stable parliamentary majority, will submit bills to Parliament, which could be voted by all the MPs, including those who left. The second scenario is a possible coalition with the PDM, which should not be excluded. The third scenario is the snap parliamentary elections that would represent a problem for Moldova as society will witness political struggles during seven-eight months. Furthermore, about 70 million lei will be spent on these elections.

Igor Dodon believes snap elections are wanted by the PAS leader Maia Sandu because she is outside Parliament and wants to return. The leader of the Shor Party Ilan Shor also wants the situation to become unstable as the prosecutor general started to more seriously deal with the bank fraud, the airport and all the other cases.
