After the interview filmed in the Jilava Penitentiary in Romania, where interloper Vitalie Proca admits that he pulled the trigger, but the murder of banker German Gorbuntsov was ordered by Vlad Plahotniuc, another person involved in the scheme to organize the murder Valeriu Halupa said Renato Usatyi is actually the one who ordered the murder, IPN reports.
In the program Fabrika on Publika TV through Skype, Valeriu Halupa, who said that he is now in Moldova, stated that he was the first to go to the Prospector’s Office and to make statements about this case after he found out from TV reports in what he had been involved. Halupa said his role was to check the addresses in London where the banker stayed.
“Ion Druta phoned me and we met. He was together with Oleg Timoshenko and they offered me to go to England to check an address to see if a person who owed them a lot of money lived there. I didn’t know what person they talked about. As I had Romanian passport, I accepted. I flied and established that no one lived at that address. The person whose picture they gave me wasn’t there. I phoned them and told them this and returned home. In a month, Ion Druta called me again and told me that I was already involved and should check two more addresses, of an office and of a home. They covered the travel expenses and I left. That person was present in the office and at home,” related Halupa.
He said that in London he accompanied Proca to the addresses that he verified. “Druta phoned me and told me that a man will call me and will come to meet me. In several days, Vitalie Proca called me and we met. He was looking for rented accommodations. He asked me where that address was. I showed the paper to him and he told me to accompany him as he didn’t know the area well. We went together to the office and home of German Gorbuntsov. That was it. I returned home,” said Valeriu Halupa.
He noted that he went to the Prosecutor’s Office when he learned about the murder attempt from TV. “Ion Druta was the organizer of the assignation scheme, while Proca was the assassinator. When they reported this case on TV and showed Proca’s face, I realized what happened. I understood I was involved in a more serious scheme than I imagined,” he stated, adding that the next day after he made statements he was phoned by Druta. “I told everything as it was. The next day, Ion Druta called me and asked me why I went to the Prosecutor’s Office. He said: I was phoned by Usatyii, the persons who ordered the murder, who are powerful and have weight. And he told me not to worry,” stated Valeriu Halupa.
In an interview for Jurnal TV broadcast in the evening of November 2, interloper Vitalie Proca, who was sentenced to jail in Romania, said that in 2012 he shot businessman German Gorbuntsov by order of Vlad Plahotniuc, but failed to kill this. “The order was made by Plahotniuc. I don’t know how the rest of the world sees him, but I consider him a career criminal and I know what I say. He found me in a moment when I had financial difficulties. I could not repay a debt and they offered me to do this,” stated Vitalie Proca.
Several days earlier, the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases gave a news conference where there was presented the scheme of the murder attempt on businessman German Gorbuntsov. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the murder of Gorbuntsov was ordered by the leader of “Our Party” Renato Usatyi, while the executor Vitalie Proca was to later name Vlad Plahotniuc as the one who ordered the murder, in exchange for a sum of money. In connection with this fact, they asked that Usatyi should be extradited from Russia. In September, the Russian authorities rejected the request for the reason that Usatyi has Russian nationally as well, but this yet remains on the wanted list. The prosecutors also said that the Russians block the interrogation of Vitalie Proca, who is held in a jail in Romania.
