Moldovan pugilist Dumitru Galagot won the silver medal at the European Boxing Championships that closed in Minks on June 9. In the final of the 64 kg class, Galagot lost to Russia’s Armen Zakarian 0-3, IPN reports.
The 20-year-old athlete from Grimancauti scored the best result for Moldova at the continental competition this year. Petru Caduc’s pupil is the second Moldovan boxer who competed in the final of a European championship, after Veaceslav Gojan, in 2002 and 2011.
At the competition in Minsk, Moldovan boxer Petru Ciobanu won bronze in the 81 kg class.
For the first time, Moldova was represented at the European Champs by 10 athletes.
