The driver who three months ago caused a road accident that resulted in the death of two persons and the injuring of another three was sentenced to six years and eight months in jail, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The man was banned from driving. The court also obliged him to pay 775,000 lei in respect of pecuniary and non-pecuniary damage to the injured parties and 18,000 lei court costs.
On the night of May 17, the man, ignoring the red color of the traffic lights at the intersection of Ismail St and Ștefan cel Mare Blvd, struck a cab at high speed, being projected into another car parked legally.
As a result of the impact, the cab driver and the passenger died, while another three persons were hurt. Immediately after the accident, the driver was arrested and has been in custody.
The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
