Despite the dismissal of the Government, the US priorities for Moldova remain unchanged

Despite the unfortunate dismissal of Prime Minister Maia Sandu's Government, the priorities of the United States of America in its bilateral relationship with the Republic of Moldova have not changed. This is the reaction of the US Embassy in Chisinau, following the dismissal on Tuesday, November 12, of the Maia Sandu Government, through a censure motion, IPN reports.

"We urge the elected representatives of the Moldovan people to build a more just, democratic and prosperous future for all its citizens. Moldovans deserve leaders who will work for the good of the country and will free it from the corruption that has prevented Moldova from reaching its potential”, is mentioned in a Facebook post of the Embassy.

The European Commission's Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Maja Kocijancic, said with reference to the situation in Moldova that "the vote of no confidence in the Government in the Republic of Moldova over questions concerning the recruitment process of the Prosecutor General sends worrying signals for the reform process in the country". Furthermore, the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, said that "the Socialist Party’s initiative to remove the Maia Sandu Government at a key moment for the justice reform is directed against the medium and long term interests of the Republic of Moldova and its citizens.

The Cabinet of Ministers led by Prime Minister Maia Sandu was dismissed on Tuesday, November 12, at Parliament's plenary. The motion of censure brought in by the Socialist Party group was voted by 63 MPs from the PSRM and the Democratic Party. Șor Party group MPs abstained from voting, while those from the ACUM bloc voted against.

As a result of the resignation of the Government, the President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon is waiting today, November 13, for parliamentary groups to discuss possible solutions for "overcoming the political crisis".
