Chisinau municipality invested over 67m lei in kindergartens in suburban settlements

In four years, the Chisinau City Hall invested over 67 million lei in the building, extension, repair, modernization and equipment of kindergartens situated in suburban settlements. According to mayor Ion Ceban, this is a joint effort of the municipality and the local authorities of the suburban localities, which results in the creation of hundreds of places for children in kindergartens and dozens of new employment opportunities in the education system, IPN reports.

Two kindergartens built from the foundation were opened in 2023. The kindergarten in Sângera town has a capacity of 320 places, while the kindergarten in Brăila village of Băcioi commune has 60 places. The municipality’s contribution to building the preschool in Sângera was 90%, while to that in Brăila – almost 60%. “The inauguration of the two kindergartens means not only additional places, but also modern, comfortable and friendly conditions for the growth and development of children,” stated Ion Ceban.

The Chisinau City Hall is also the development partner of the project to build the kindergarten in Bâc village of Bubuieci commune, with a capacity of 160 places.

The municipality also invested over 4 million lei in the first phase of the project, which started at the end of 2022. Another 4 million lei for this project was earmarked by the City Hall through an order of November 24, 2023.

At the request of residents and the local administration of Condrița, the municipality allocated over 2 million lei purchasing a building to open the first ever kindergarten of the locality. The final stages of the project, to change the status of the building, were to be implemented by the local authorities. The kindergarten will have 40 places.

In 2020, after a period of almost three decades of is closure, Kindergarten No. 140 “Ion Creangă” in Băcioi was reopened. The rehabilitation project was possible thanks to the investments of the Chisinau City Hall, the Băcioi mayor’s office and foreign partners. The total cost was over 19 million lei, of which 18 million lei was the contribution from the municipal budget. Currently, the institution is attended by almost 200 preschoolers.

“Kindergarten No. 24 “Izvoras” in Colonița is today one of the most modern institutions in the municipality. The nearly 150 attending children have excellent conditions for education. The municipality allocated 4.5 million lei for fully repairing the building and landscaping the territory,” said the mayor.

The Chisinau City Hall, together with local authorities, invested also in thermal insulation projects, building of boiler rooms and installation of new heating systems, roof renovation and group repair, construction of pavilions and mini-sports fields at these kindergartens. They were also equipped with sets of LEGO, DUPLO and cognitive toys. This was possible thanks to the partnership between the Chisinau City Hall and UNICEF Moldova.
