Children receive presents for good results at school
Over 100 children that achieved good results at school in 2007 were awarded at a ceremony held at a skating ring in Chisinau on December 27, Info-Prim Neo reports.
President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin offered high-priced gifts to 20 students that were awarded at international and regional Olympiads in different school subjects, 11 students from artistic education establishments that won international cultural competitions, 10 students from sports institutions that won world and international championships, 10 students of the theoretical lyceum “Mircea Eliade” that were the first to participate in community actions, four students of the boarding school No. 1 in Chisinau, 40 students with the highest standing that participated actively in social-cultural activities organised in Moldova’s boarding schools and to 27 young hockey players.
The head of state congratulated the students on the winter holidays and on the results they achieved this year. The authorities take resolute steps to create adequate conditions so that the youth in Moldova can fully realise their potential, Vladimir Voronin said, cited by the presidential press service.
The president spoke about the measures projected for 2008 – which was declared the Year of Youth. He specified that the planned activities represent a new approach to the problems of youth, stemming from the necessity of increasing the young people’s role in the social-political and cultural life, of creating conditions for the young generation to realize its creative potential.
The National University of Physical Education and Sports offered a charity meal for a group of children from residential institutions. The children learned that the central buildings of the university have been put in commission recently and the institution is now the most modern higher education establishment in Moldova.
