African swine fever reported in Nisporeni district

A case of African swine fever was recorded in a farm close to Soltănești village of Nisporeni district, IPN reports, with reference to the National Food Safety Agency.

The Nisporeni local commission for exceptional situations instituted quarantine measures and steps are being taken to eliminate the hotbed with the involvement of all the district bodies and central level specialists of the National Food Safety Agency. Restriction zones were set up around the hotbed (3 km protection zone and 10 km surveillance zone).

The Agency informed the national and EU bodies, the World Organization for Animal Health and other foreign partners about the hotbed of African swine fever reported on Moldova’s territory

Pig owners are requested to urgently inform the local food safety subdivisions, veterinarians or the local public authorities if animals become ill or die or if bodies of wild boars are detected.

The citizens are requested not to purchase products made from pork from the neighboring countries for being imported as these will be confiscated and destroyed due to the risks they pose.

African swine fever is not dangerous to humans, but spreads swiftly among animals and is fatal for them.
