€1.6m confiscated at customs post to be transferred to state budget

Over 32 million lei confiscated in the case of smuggling of €1.6 million will be transferred to the state budget. The procedure was launched buy the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency and the money is to reach the state budget in several days, IPN reports.

The money was found by customs officers at a checkpoint in April 2020. The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency sequestrated it, transferring it to its treasury accounts.

The criminal case was sent to court and the money was confiscated by a court decision that became final. Respectively, the Agency initiated the procedure for transferring the equivalent of €1.6 million to the state.

The truck driver who attempted to smuggle the money was given a two-year suspended sentence.
