Balti Municipal Council to initiate referendum on dismissal of mayor

The Balti Municipal Council in an extraordinary meeting on January 3 decided to initiate a local referendum on the dismissal of Renato Usatyi from the post of mayor, IPN reports.

The decision about the calling of an extraordinary meeting was signed on December 29, 2017 by acting mayor Igor Sheremet, who tendered his resignation on January 2, 2018.

Renato Usatyi has been absent from Moldova for over a year and the meetings with functionaries of the Balti mayor’s office are held by videoconferencing with Moscow, where the mayor is now.
