Criminal case started over planning of mass disorders

The General Police Inspectorate said it started a criminal case over the preparation of mass disorders based on reasonable suspicions. The police identified persons who incite to violence, pogroms and destruction of property. The information was presented in a news conference that centered on the measures that will be taken to ensure public order and road traffic security during the protest set to take place in central Chisinau on June 24, IPN reports.

Grigore Moga, head of the General Prosecution Division, said there was collected  sufficient evidence showing that the actions of these persons were aimed at destabilizing the peaceful demonstrations. One of the suspects was already cited for questioning. It was established that one of the suspects is investigated in a criminal case centering on the mass disorder of April 24, 2016. The identity of the suspects and their number cannot be made public given the secrecy of the investigation and the impossibility of revealing personal data.

According to Grigore Moga, the actions of the police are not aimed against persons who will protest peacefully. On the contrary, the goal is to protect them from eventual altercations.

Daniela Buzatu, head of the Prevention Section of the General Public Security Division, recommended the participants in the protest to obey public order and the demands of the police. These must not have firearms, explosives, cudgels, sharp objects, masks or balaclavas on them and should not be under the influence of alcohol. The protesters who see suspect persons should immediately announce the police.

According to Pavel Apostol, senior specialist of the Common Road Traffic Monitoring and Control Center, the central area of Chisinau will be closed to traffic in the afternoon of June 24. Several parking places will be available for persons who intend to take part in the protest: near the Circus, on the streets Mihai Viteazul and Columna and in front of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.

A new service was presented in the conference, called “Dialog”. This will ensure the interaction and improvement of communication between the police and participants in assemblies. The “Dialog” team will consist of two-three employees with experience who attended a training course on efficient communication in crisis situations. These will manage eventual conflict situations. The team members will wear vests with the words “Police Dialog” on the back and will have radio stations and recording equipment on them.

The Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” announced a large-scale protest that is to be mounted in front of the Chisinau City Hall starting at 2pm on June 24. Protests started to be staged after the Chisinau City Court on June 19 decided to not validate the mayoral elections held in Chisinau and this decision was later upheld by the Appeals Court.
