Monitoring the implementation of the public administration reform and resource distribution
Dozens of young people held an event to increase the people’s awareness by dances. They informed the people that the new legal provisions concerning smoking took effect today. The event was organized by students of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacology “Nicolae Testemitanu” and the College of Medicine, together with the National Public Health Center and the Ministry of Health, IPN reports.
The Center’s vice director Ion Salaru said the law on tobacco control will have the expected effect and will protect the people’s health by creating better conditions for strong health. “The young people have the right to a tobacco-free environment, to healthy education, recreation and work conditions,” he stated, noting that the law brings benefits to everyone and its effects will be felt in the near future.
By this awareness-raising event, the medical students aimed to inform the people about the impact of smoking on their health and about the coming into force of the new provisions that ban smoking in public places. The young people distributed brochures about the ban on smoking in parks and playgrounds.
A number of provisions of the law on tobacco control took effect on May 31. Smoking in closed and semi-closed public places, including places of common use and workplaces, regardless of the type of ownership and way of access, is banned.
