Moldova, Romania could abolish roaming charges

Moldova and Romania initiated negotiations on the signing of an intergovernmental agreement providing that the citizens of the two states will speak on the phone without paying roaming charges, IPN reports, quoting a draft decision approved by the Cabinet.

“From my viewpoint, it is an important and logical step that matches the series of actions that bring us closer to Romania, such as the natural gas and electric power interconnection, connection in the education and cultural spheres. This is nothing but a closer tie between our states,” noted Prime Minister Pavel Filip.

When the agreement takes effect, the citizens of the two states who occasionally travel to the neighboring state will have access to roaming call and SMS services at domestic tariffs, while the Internet connection tariff will be gradually reduced until 2022, according to the procedures agreed at European level.

“Today I had a discussion with the Prime Minister of Romania Viorica Dãncilã over the phone. She said they want the same thing. We could sign this agreement in the common meeting of the Governments of Moldova and Romania that will take place in Bucharest on November 22,” Pavel Filip stated in the November 14 meeting of the Cabinet of Moldova.
