The decree to hold a national consultative referendum on four subjects that was signed by President Igor Dodon on March 28 came into force after it was published in the March 31 number of the Official Gazette, IPN reports.
The first question to which the people will answer is if they support the abrogation of the law that makes the repayment of the money stolen from the banking system their burden. The second question regards the empowerment of the President to dissolve Parliament in other conditions than the current ones and, as a result, to announce early parliamentary elections. Reducing the number of MPs from 101 to 71 is the third question, while teaching the History of Moldova in schools is the fourth question.
The referendum is to take place on September 24 this year.
To an inquiry by IPN News Agency, the Central Election Commission responded that judging by the latest national elections, the costs associated with an eventual referendum would amount to 75 million lei.
